A Day at The Louvre

Day 4 of my trip to Paris was spent exploring the Louvre Museum, a historic monument and one of the world’s most visited museums featuring the work of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo among many others. The museum houses over 35,000 masterpieces, so due to the fact that I didn’t want to spend my entire trip navigating the 600,000 square foot exhibition space, it was necessary to pick and choose a few highlight pieces to see in person. I was extremely excited to see all of the work in real life after taking several art history courses at Ryerson, which made it extremely hard to narrow down the list. Regardless, I made my selections, and after experiencing the Louvre first-hand, here are my top must-see picks:

  1. Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci
  2. Nike of Samothrace (Winged Victory)
  3. Raft of Medusa by Theodore Gericault
  4. Liberty Leading the People by Eugene Delacroix
  5. Venus de Milo by Alexandros of Antioch
  6. La Grande Odalisque by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres
